New York Fashion Week is over for another year, and it once again succeeded in creating some major fashion envy. There were a few stand-out moments and looks, and we’re here to fill you in on the biggest trends to hit the runway.
Oversized everything
Oscar De La Renta, Edun, Marc Jacobs
The oversized jacket has made a comeback this year at fashion week. This statement look seems to get bigger and better every season, with designers such as Oscar de la Renta and Marc Jacobs taking on the timeless piece. Beyond jackets, everything appeared to be a little bigger this year. Extra large pants and bags were also reoccurring all week – cosy and loose is the new silhouette!
Bright, structured colours
Victoria Beckham, Diana Von Furstenberg, Delpozo
Despite the oversized theme appearing across most runways, structure still managed to pull through for plenty of designers. This year it was all about taking classic structures to a new level with bright yellows, oranges, blues, and purples. We’re loving the 80s-inspired twist on traditional styles – they're screaming ‘girlboss’!
Floral Boho
Zimmerman, Coach, Diana Von Furstenberg, Anna Sui
Muted blushes, silks, and sheer florals were also popular this year at NYFW. Boho is back and more fashionable than ever. Brands such as Zimmerman, Coach and Diana Von Furstenburg took on the 70s style. Layering is key to this year’s take on the boho trend!
Sequins and feathers
Libertine, Diana Von Furstenberg, Anna Sui
It wouldn’t be New York Fashion week without a bit of embellishment – and this year designers were pushing the boundaries with their ready-to-wear looks. Sequins, feathers, and tassels were a stand-out on the runway, paired with statement shoes and jewels to create bold, eye-catching styles.
Headwear
Delpozo, Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs
Headwear was taken to a another level on the runway this season, especially from designers such as Marc Jacobs whose collection was largely inspired by African culture. Alexander Wang (pictured on Kendall Jenner above) took on the headband with over-the-top 'WANG' declarations across his model’s heads. The statement headpiece is definitely one to try this season!
